Q. Me, my partner and three other girls have been in our house for about three months and from the start of the tenancy our landlord has been very involved with the house. He arrived at the house the day after we moved in at 8am and stayed until 12, helped himself to our food and drinks, and then returned the next day to do the same thing.

Ever since, he has visited the house at least once a week to “check in”. He leaves us cryptic messages about things to do with the house and he watches to make sure we put the bins out on time. He has also removed our Pride flag that was in the enclosed porch, which freaked us out a little. He has even told us off for not opening the curtains during the day. Our estate agent has told us to speak to him but we are intimidated by him.

A. If you’re used to bouncing around private rentals there’s no doubt you will have met a creepy or intrusive landlord. One of my landlords would rock up with only an hour’s notice with a, “Sorry girls, forgot to mention I’m coming to do the meter readings in an hour.” Or, “I was in the area and thought I would check out that issue with the tap.” He would knock on the door and then let himself in with a big, “Hi girls, it’s only me!”
