Italy should pull out of next year's Eurovision Song Contest if Israel is in the competition, three Rai state broadcaster board members said Tuesday calling for "a concrete sign of sympathy with a population subject to extermination" in Gaza.

Alessandro di Majo, Davide Di Pietro e Roberto Natale, three of the seven Rai directors, said Italy should follow the example of Ireland, Netherlands, Spain, Slovenia and Iceland in saying they won't take part if Israel does, due to the alleged "genocide" on the Strip.

"Rai," said the three, "must also question the wave of solidarity for Palestine that swept across Italy yesterday, bringing hundreds of thousands of people to the streets and finding support among many public service employees.

"Five public broadcasters have already decided in recent weeks not to participate if Israel takes part in the demonstration.

We ask that Italy do the same".
