Saudi Arabia's top cleric has died at the age of 82.
Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz passed away on Tuesday morning, the Royal Court said today.
'With his passing, the Kingdom and the Islamic world have lost a distinguished scholar who made significant contributions to the service of science, Islam, and Muslims,' the court added.
It added that King Salman and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman offered their condolences to the late Sheikh’s family, Saudi people and the Muslim world.
The Grand Mufti is the most senior and influential Muslim religious and legal authority in the kingdom.
