The next session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will commence on October 14, 2025, Speaker M. Appavu announced in Chennai on Tuesday (September 23). The supplementary budget estimates for 2025-26 will be presented in the House during the session, he added.
On the first day of the session, the House will adopt a condolence resolution over the passing of Valparai MLA T.K. Amul Kandasamy and other prominent personalities. Obituary references to the passing of eight former legislators will also be made.
Before October 14, a meeting of the House’s Business Advisory Committee will decide on the duration of the session in the Assembly-cum-Secretariat complex in Chennai, he said.
Responding to a query on criticisms over Mr. Appavu’s recent press interaction and the charge that he was the only Speaker in the country to get involved in politics, Mr. Appavu quipped: “It was only by getting involved in politics that we earned the people’s votes, I was elected as an MLA, and later became the Speaker.”
