A heartbroken couple have blasted a 'ridiculous' council for forcing them to take down the flower pots on their balcony.

Julie and Derek Lee have spent the last 20 years decorating the outside of their first floor flat in Stapleford, Nottinghamshire with hanging baskets and plants.

Now Broxtowe Borough Council have ordered the couple to remove the pots and flowers, saying they pose a fire hazard.

They received a letter last week giving them just two days to bin their beloved florals from their two-bed leasehold flat.

Julie and husband Derek say the decision has 'ripped their hearts out' after they were forced to bin their pricey geraniums and fuchsias.
