Shivamogga District Congress Committee on Monday launched Vote Chor Gaddi Chod, a protest campaign alleging theft of votes.Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa, participating in the protest, said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had been exposing the vote theft with documents. Denying the genuine voters a choice to exercise their franchise was against the basic principles of democracy, he said.The party would convey the people about the vote theft through a State-wide campaign, Mr. Bangarappa said.Manjunath Bhandary, Congress MLC, said that the documents released by Mr. Rahul with regard to the Mahadevapura and Aland Assembly constituencies exposed the magnitude of vote theft and its impact. Mr. Rahul had been exposing the failures of the Election Commission by placing records before the public, he said.The Election Commission should probe into the allegations of vote theft. However, the commission had been finding fault with the Congress for exposing its failures, he alleged.The Congress leaders also launched a signature campaign on the issue of vote theft.
