Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (September 22, 2025) afternoon inaugurated newly developed infrastructure and beautification works at the Tripura Sundari Temple complex at Udaipur in Tripura’s Gomati district under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme. Mr. Modi also offered prayers at the ancient temple, which is one of 51 shakti peethas in India.Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, former Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb and senior leaders of the ruling BJP accompanied Mr. Modi at the temple. The Prime Minister arrived at the MBB Airport in Agartala and flew to Udaipur in a helicopter.Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha and DGP Anurag welcomed the Prime Minister at the airport. Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and the Chief Minister received him at the helipad at the Palatana OTPC power plant in Udaipur.The Prime Minister arrived in Agartala after visiting Arunachal Pradesh, where he inaugurated multiple development projects worth several hundred crores.Tight securitySecurity had been tightened in west Tripura, Sepahijala and Gomati districts for the PM’s visit. Restrictions on movement of goods and heavy vehicles had been imposed.Paramilitary troops had been deployed on the 12-km roadside from the Palatana helipad to the temple complex in Udaipur, the headquarters of Gomati district. Hundreds of people gathered along the roadside to see the PM.Upon arrival at the temple complex, the Prime Minister toured the photo exhibition gallery to get a glimpse of the complex and the implementation of the development work under the PRASHAD scheme.Mr. Modi also offered puja in accordance with rituals at the 523-year-old temple founded by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya. During the rituals, tribal devotees presented traditional Kirtan.Unlike in Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh, he did not address the audience in Tripura. This was Mr. Modi’s 11th visit to Tripura after assuming office as Prime Minister in 2014.Meanwhile, the Opposition Congress party has alleged that party leaders and MLAs were not invited to the temple development inauguration programme.
