Ahme Gujarat High Court on Monday (September 22, 2025) granted regular bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Chaitar Vasava, who has been behind bars since July in connection with an attempt to murder case.Justice M.R. Mengdey allowed the bail plea with the condition that Mr. Vasava, the MLA from Dediapada in Narmada district, will not enter Dediapada taluka for a year.Mr. Vasava was arrested on July 5 under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder after allegedly attacking a taluka panchayat president during an official meeting in his constituency. He was also booked under Sections relating to voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, insult, damage to property, and insulting the modesty of a woman.According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at the Dediapada police station, the incident occurred during a meeting at the taluka office, where Mr. Vasava reportedly objected to his nominee being overlooked for appointment to the Aapno Taluko Vibrant Taluko committee. The FIR alleged that he abused the woman president of Sagbara taluka panchayat, following which Dediapada taluka panchayat president Sanjay Vasava intervened. The MLA allegedly hurled a mobile phone at Mr. Sanjay Vasava, causing head injuries, and attempted to attack him with a glass container before being stopped by police personnel present at the spot. The Rajpipla sessions court had earlier rejected the legislator’s bail plea, citing his past offences, including a six month sentence in 2023 for voluntarily causing hurt. He was, however, granted three days of temporary bail earlier this month to attend the monsoon session of the State Assembly.Mr. Vasava, a prominent tribal leader representing Dediapada, approached the High Court after the Sessions Court’s refusal, leading to Monday’s order granting him bail with restrictions.
