President Donald Trump unveiled Charlie Kirk's last request before the conservative activist's assassination earlier this month.
During a speech honoring his late friend in Glendale, Arizona, Trump claimed that one of Kirk's last requests was for the administration to 'save Chicago.' Kirk was born and raised in the suburbs surrounding Chicago.
In recent weeks, Trump has vowed to overrule the Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker by sending National Guard troops into Chicago for a sweeping crack down on crime.
'We owe Charlie a profound and eternal debt of gratitude,' Trump told memorial audience.
The president went on to praise Kirk for helping to promote 'freedom and justice' across the nation.
