If you’re finding it hard to get through a book these days, you’re not the only one.

A new survey shows the average Briton can now only read one chapter before they zone out and lose concentration.

That amounts to about 14 minutes of reading – while for films and TV shows, the average attention span is only marginally better at 15 minutes.

Social media appears to be the main reason people are getting distracted, with 43 per cent of those polled blaming notifications from platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.

A similar proportion, 41 per cent, said WhatsApp and other messaging alerts were diverting their attention from tasks.
