An additional women’s hostel block with a capacity to accommodate 200 students will be built at Tamil Nadu National Law University to ease the space crunch in the existing residential facility, authorities have said.

“We have got a Government grant of ₹18 crore for this project, and the office of the superintending engineer, Public Works Department, has invited tenders for the construction to be carried out adjacent to the existing women’s hostel. The bid closes on September 29. Construction is expected to start by end-October and conclude within 16 months,” S. M. Balakrishnan, University Registrar, told The Hindu.

He said the building would house undergraduates in the first and second floors on a sharing basis, while postgraduates and Ph.D scholars would occupy the third floor in single accommodation. The ground floor would be reserved for common facilities. The building layout included security cameras and rainwater harvesting plants.
