A 26-year-old student from Srinagar Colony, Hyderabad, was defrauded of ₹27.55 lakh in an investment scam after falling for false promises of guaranteed high returns made by a man posing as a financial advisor. The Hyderabad cyber crimes police booked a case.

An officer from the wing said that one Sachin from Bangalore contacted the victim through WhatsApp. “Presenting himself as a credible advisor, Sachin offered short-term investment opportunities with assured profits and no risks. Convinced by these claims, the student raised money by borrowing from friends and acquaintances,” said the officer.

Following the suspect’s instructions, he deposited ₹27,55,600 in cash into different bank accounts. However, once the money was transferred, the promised returns never arrived, and Sachin stopped responding to calls and messages.

The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police said the case is a reminder of how fraudsters exploit trust and desperation by guaranteeing unrealistic profits. Officials have issued an advisory urging the public to remain alert and avoid sharing personal or financial information with strangers online.

“No genuine financial advisor or company can guarantee returns without risks,” the officer added, cautioning people to verify credentials before investing. They also warned the public to be suspicious of schemes that appear too good to be true.
