Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday (September 20, 2025) urged teachers not to put pressure on students, asking them to consider the specific circumstances of each home and the unique challenges faced by families in today’s society.
Addressing teachers at an event organised by the School Education Department in Chennai on Saturday, Mr. Stalin said, “Psychological well-being and physical health are just as important as the knowledge you impart to students. In today’s world, children often spend more time with their teachers than with their parents.”
“Some students come from educated families, while many belong to educationally disadvantaged backgrounds and are struggling to climb the social ladder. Teachers must shoulder the responsibility of supporting the growth and development of every student by understanding each student’s unique family circumstances and assessing the challenges their families face in society. Teachers play the role of second parents,” he said.
Stressing the need for a greater role for teachers in a world driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), Mr. Stalin said, “Students should not be under the impression that they can find all the answers through Google and AI. You should teach students about the line dividing the human mind and technology. You should train them on the power of ethical values and moral character. In addition to the syllabus, you should encourage students to read literary works, gain general awareness, adhere to social norms, and be aware about the environment and climate change.”
