The Labour Government finally started its 'one in, one out' scheme of sending a small proportion of migrants arriving in dinghies back across the Channel this week.

Keir Starmer – who scrapped the Tories’ Rwanda asylum deal as one of his first acts in office – previously claimed his agreement with French president Emmanuel Macron would see migrants ‘returned to France in short order’.

However, more than a thousand people crossed the English Channel in small boats on Friday as the Government sent a third person back to France

It takes the number of people who have made the crossing so far in 2025 to 32,103 - a record for this point in a year.

Now, have your say in the Daily Mail's latest poll – do you think Kier Starmer's 'one in, one out' migrants scheme should already be branded a failure?
