Border Force staff on the front lines of tackling the migrant crisis are threatening to strike in the latest blow to Sir Keir Starmer's efforts to stop the boats.

Members of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) will vote in the coming weeks on whether to take industrial action.

Their duties include patrolling the Channel and identifying vessels involved in smuggling or small boats crossings.

The ballot is a new blow to the Prime Minister, who is under increasing pressure to get a grip of the migrant crisis.

PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said: 'It is a disgrace that our members have been waiting six years for this situation to be resolved.
