Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Binoy Viswam has said that a dangerous political style of functioning that shows no regard for the dignity of women active in social, cultural and political spheres is gaining ground in Kerala.
This style of politics challenges the enlightened perspectives on women’s dignity and gender equality that Kerala has nurtured over decades of progressive struggles, he said in a statement here on Friday (September 19, 2025).
Kerala’s women who have fought for their rights to stand shoulder to shoulder with men in every field will remain unfazed in the face of these assaults.
He said that these new political forces and their regressive policies were driven by outdated ideas of patriarchy that feudalism left behind. They sought to misuse the new social media and the advances made in science and technology to spread hate against women.
Mr. Viswam cautioned that if the State’s social, cultural and political movements do not come together to defeat this attempt to take the public consciousness to the dark days, the renaissance values that Kerala has worked to uphold will be wounded deeply.
