Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Gearbox Software has breathed new life into their popular looter-shooter series Borderlands with Borderlands 4, an entry that works as both a sequel to previous games and as a soft reboot for the franchise.
Borderlands 4, right from the start, ushers in new changes to the series that first began in 2009 by taking players away from the planet of Pandora and placing them into the new setting of Kairos.
Fans of the series will quickly notice in the intro mission how much the tone has changed from Borderlands 3.
Borderlands 4 presents a slightly more serious vibe with humor that is less in your face and less like an online comment section come to life. Borderlands 4 is still darkly funny, but the humor has been toned down to present something more dry and witty.
Gone is an antagonist like Handsome Jack, with Borderlands 4 having a less charismatic, more sinister threat with the Timekeeper, the tyrannical dictator of Kairos. The loudmouth Claptrap is still around, but in a limited capacity.
