A doctor asked to examine the medical records of babies murdered and harmed by Lucy Letby today said it was ‘appalling’ that he was never called to give evidence in her defence.
Dr Mike Hall told the Mail’s Trial podcast that the jury had been wrong to convict the former neo-natal nurse and it was ‘unfair’ that he did not take the stand.
Letby, 35, is serving 15 whole life terms after being found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven more – one child she tried to kill twice - following two trials, in August 2023 and July last year.
Since then, a panel of experts has cast doubt on her convictions, while others have criticised her original barrister, Ben Myers KC, over the decision not to call any medical experts in her defence.
Letby gave evidence herself for 14 days at her original trial but her only other witness was a hospital plumber.
