James Bond once described the job as a travelling 'sort of licenced troubleshooter'.

But now those aspiring to join MI6 won't even need to leave their bedrooms as the service is opening a 'virtual door' for new spies.

In a bid to lure agents in Russia and other hostile states, MI6 has launched a dark web recruitment portal so secrets can be passed on without anyone knowing.

Known as the 'Silent Courier', MI6 hope that the dark web portal will allow intelligence about hostile states and terrorism to be shared securely without the need for any rendezvous in the shadows, perhaps signalling the end of the days of dead drops, coded messages and other traditional spy craft.

The move comes after spymaster Sir Richard Moore made an unprecedented appeal to disaffected Russians to 'come spy with us' in 2023 saying: 'There are many Russians today who are silently appalled by the sight of their armed forces pulverising Ukrainian cities, expelling innocent families from their homes and kidnapping thousands of children.
