The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has transferred the investigation into the murder of a man accused of smuggling gold to CB-CID, Ramanathapuram.The court was hearing the petition filed by Seeni Fathima of Ramanathapuram district. It is said the petitioner’s son, Syed Abdullah, had indulged in smuggling of gold and was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Thoothukudi, in 2023 with 6 kg of gold and cash of ₹30 lakh.It is said that persons involved in smuggling of gold and hawala transactions demanded the petitioner’s son to settle the amount, abducted him and brutally murdered him. The petitioner alleged her son was murdered brutally at the instance of the hawala agents and drug peddlers. The petitioner said the police had not conducted the investigation properly and sought the transfer of the probe from Thirupullani police to CB-CID.Justice B. Pugalendhi observed the police have not collected the details as to the cause of death of the petitioner’s son.Transferring the investigation to CB-CID, Ramanathapuram, the court directed the agency to conduct investigation based on the case registered by the DRI and to ascertain the persons behind the murder of the petitioner’s son.
