The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA) has mooted a production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the Micro, Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (MSMEs).Association president M. Karthikeyan told The Hindu on Thursday the Central government had implemented a PLI scheme for 12 sectors where it gave financial support for industrial investments, based on turnover. However, the micro and small-scale enterprises in sectors such as textiles and engineering that were covered by the PLI Scheme did not benefit from it as they could not meet the turnover criteria and there was no scheme for MSMEs in sectors such as food.Hence, the Association mooted a PLI scheme to the Central and State governments for all MSMEs, irrespective of the manufacturing sector the units were in. The State government could remove the turnover limit - as prescribed by the Centre in its PLI scheme - and announce an incentive scheme to boost investments by the MSMEs. The Association would submit its suggestions to the Centre too soon, he said.Further, the CODISSIA submitted a proposal earlier to the State government requesting subsidy for MSMEs that had upto 112 KW maximum electricity demand and wanted to instal rooftop solar energy panels. It planned to work on the proposal again and submit to the Tamil Nadu government so that more number of MSMEs could instal rooftop solar energy panels, he said.
