Putting his own party’s government in the dock over Gurugram metro project, Union Minister of State for Planning and Gurgaon Lok Sabha MP Rao Inderjit Singh on Wednesday demanded that responsibility be fixed for seven years’ delay in the project.

He made the comments on the sidelines of an event to inaugurate “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar” at Sector 31 here.

Mr. Rao said he had been making efforts for the project since 2018 when he first held a meeting with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority officials in this connection. “Initially there was some delay on the part of Haryana. Later, I was told that the project was sent to the Union government. When I enquired the Union Ministers, including Hardeep Puri, they told me that they had not received any proposal for the metro project,” said Mr. Singh, known for plain speaking.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the project was held by Union Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal and Chief Minister Nayab Saini on September 5.
