Pet owners are being warned to be vigilant with pet medicines after one counterfeit flea treatment almost killed a beloved cat.
Alan Wall thought he was using the same brand he had for years to protect his Persian tabby, Smokey, against catching any nasty infections.
But within hours of applying the treatment, the poor moggy was violently ill and began vomiting and refusing to eat or drink.
His condition became so bad that Alan decided to take Smokey to the vet, who initially found nothing abnormal with his condition.
But after a scan, they discovered a blockage in his intestines and the cat was forced to undergo emergency intestinal surgery in order to survive.
