The Israeli Film Academy's Ophir Awards ceremony opened at Cinema City in Glilot, near Tel Aviv, alongside a large protest over the IDF's invasion of Gaza City and calls to end the war.
Dozens of filmmakers, some of whom are nominees for the awards, arrived at the ceremony wearing black T-shirts bearing signs that read "A Child is a Child" and "Stop the War."
"After a dark day and after two years of fighting, we cannot come to the ceremony and behave as usual. This war must end," Michal Weitz, director and artistic director of the Docaviv Festival, told Haaretz at the conference.
The Best Film award gives its recipient the right to represent Israel, commeting the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars.
