China has issued a warning to Britain after the UK and US sent warships through the Taiwan Strait - accusing the two allies of threatening peace and stability in the region.
Beijing said it had closely shadowed the American destroyer USS Higgins and the British frigate HMS Richmond during their transit on Friday, which Washington and London described as a routine operation.
The pair were engaged in 'trouble-making and provocation', according to Beijing's People's Liberation Army's (PLA) Eastern Theatre Command.
Senior Senior Colonel Shi Yi declared the manoeuvre had 'sent wrong signals and undermined peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait'.
He added: 'The command remains on high alert and is committed to safeguarding national sovereignty and ensuring regional peace and stability.'
