British drivers have been hit by a 24 per cent annual spike in parking fines issued by private firms, according to new figures.
Analysis of Government data shows that private firms issued 4.3million parking tickets between April and June this year.
That compares with 3.5million over the same period in 2024 and represents a record daily average of nearly 48,000 fines.
Each ticket can carry a maximum charge of £100, meaning drivers could be collectively facing bills approaching £4.8million per day if fines were all enforced at full value.
Private parking operators have long faced criticism for using confusing signage, applying aggressive debt collection methods, and imposing fees that drivers consider excessive.
