Potential Labour leadership contender Andy Burnham has warned Sir Keir Starmer not to 'water down' the long-awaited new Hillsborough Law.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester - backed by some Labour rebels as a potential replacement for the under-fire PM - said he would be 'unflinching' in speaking out for the much-delayed legislation.

His comments - amid speculation that he is laying the ground for a leadership bid despite not being an MP himself - come as Sir Keir today finally unveils its planned bill.

The Government said the Hillsborough Law would impose 'seismic' changes - including a professional and legal 'duty of candour' on public officials.

It would require them to act with honesty and integrity at all times or face possible criminal sanctions.
