Since Armand Duplantis began his uncontested reign, pole vault fans seeking suspense have had little to enjoy. But for those who grew up flipping through the Guinness Book of World Records, the Swede offers the thrill of a likely record-breaking jump every time he takes the runway.
There were no surprises in Tokyo on Monday, September 15, as both scenarios played out once again in the World Championship final. Duplantis claimed his third consecutive world title, clearing 6.00m, 6.10m and 6.15m on his first attempts. Then, true to form on major occasions, as he did at the last Olympic final, he broke his 14th world record by clearing 6.30m on his third try.
