Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday said that 50,000 more senior citizens will be added to the pension scheme by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday on September 17, providing further details on her announcement made on Sunday about the three welfare initiatives.

Eligible pensioners must submit their applications through the e-District Portal. The CM appealed to all eligible senior citizens and their families to apply promptly to take advantage of this scheme, as the beneficiaries will be selectedon a first-come, first-served basis.

Ms. Gupta also informed that an estimated budget of about ₹149 crore has been allocatedunder this scheme for the financial year.

“With 50,000 new pensions, many families will receive financial relief. This reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that senior citizens live their lives with dignity and respect,” the CM said, assuring that if the number of beneficiaries rises in the future and additional funds are required, the government will provide further budgetary support without delay.

In her budget speech in March, the CM announced that the monthly assistance for senior citizens (60-69 years) is being increasedto ₹2,500 from ₹2,000 andthose above 70 years of age will receive assistance of ₹3,000, up from ₹2,500.
