Eight people have been charged after Tommy Robinson's huge 'Unite the Kingdom' rally which descended into chaos as violence broke out on the streets of the capital.

An estimated 110,000 - 150,000 protesters marched through central London on Saturday in what is believed to be the largest right-wing demonstration in British history.

While the rally began largely peacefully as demonstrators voiced their anger over free speech and Britain's small boats crisis, it exploded into violence when protesters and counter-protesters closed in on each other along Whitehall.

At least 26 police officers were injured with kicks and punches and 24 arrests were made on the day, the Metropolitan Police said.

The arrests were for a range of public order, assault on an emergency worker and criminal damage offences.
