The mother of a young girl murdered in the Southport attack today sobbed as she demanded ‘real change and accountability’ so her daughter’s death ‘is not in vain.’

Lauren King, 43, said the killing of her six-year-old daughter, Bebe, was ‘preventable’ and occurred ‘because of failures that should never have been allowed.’

And she told the public inquiry investigating the atrocity that it must not be a ‘box ticking exercise,’ adding: ‘No other child, no other family, no other community should ever endure what we now live with every single day.’

‘No statement, no report, no apology will ever bring Bebe back,’ she said. ‘But this inquiry cannot become another box-ticking exercise.

‘The truth must be faced. Accountability must be taken. And real change must be made. Because this was preventable. It should never have happened.’
