The oldest sea fort in the UK could be turned into a migrant hotel, despite Labour MPs disapproval of the similar Bibby Stockholm barge which was described as a 'recipe for disaster'.

Fort Blockhouse, in Gosport, Hampshire, is reportedly being considered as a new accommodation site for asylum seekers.

The sea fort, which dates back to the 15th century, continues to be vacant after being put up for sale in 2016.

There had been hopes that it would be transformed into a multi-million pound development but the Ministry of Defence [MoD] has not been able to sell it.

Now it is understood that the site may soon become accommodation for asylum seekers, as the government considers using former military housing blocks as accommodation, rather than hotels.
