A head teacher has been forced to deny his school is letting pupils identify as animals after a poison pen campaign resulted in social media outrage.
Patrick Earnshaw, head of Highcliffe School, a comprehensive secondary school in Highcliffe-on-Sea, Dorset, addressed online speculation over pupils in a recent newsletter.
Under the heading 'Litter Trays: Fact vs Social Media', the educator criticised Facebook groups for suggesting pupils are identifying as cats and dogs.
He also rubbished claims pupils are using litter trays provided by teachers and stationed in corridors around the school.
Furries are people who have an interest in animal characters with human-like characteristics.
