The free mass HPV vaccination programme being organised by the Lions Club of Vizag Charitable Trust in coordination with Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) CSR funds, from September 13 to 16 is drawing good response.
Girls, in the 9 to 14 years age group, are being administered the vaccine at the Lions Cancer and General Hospital at Seethammadhara. The vaccination is being done from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on all the days. A total of 670 girls have registered for the free vaccination programme, so far.
HPV vaccination for girls is a must to prevent cervical cancer in later life. The second dose of the vaccination would be given after six months. Chairperson Lions Club of Vizag Charitable Trust Shirin Rahman said that more such camps would be conducted in future to control cervical cancer.
Managing Trustee of Lions Cancer Hospital Velagapudi Umamaheswara Rao, secretary Ravichandra and Dr. Sharat were among those who were present at the camp.
