Coleman Wong stars in doubles and singles as Hong Kong win World Group II clash 3-1
A Coleman Wong-powered Hong Kong pulled off a stunning Davis Cup upset on Sunday, downing fifth seeds Uzbekistan 3-1 at Victoria Park Tennis Stadium.
The city’s top player finished what he had started the day before, brushing aside Khumoyun Sultanov 6-2, 6-2 to win the tie with a match to spare.
While Wong sealed the victory, it was the work he and Wong Chun-hun did in the earlier doubles clash with Sultanov and Sergey Fomin that paved the way.
The pair battled back from an early break in the first set to claim it 7-5, and then in a thrilling conclusion won the second 7-6 to send a roar racing around a packed centre court.
