The miracle sole survivor of the Air India disaster is unlikely to ever return home to Britain because he is too frightened to board a plane, his family said last night.

Relatives of Leicester businessman Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, said he remained deeply traumatised by June's crash, which killed 260 people, and is having counselling in India.

Mr Ramesh's brother-in-law said he did not expect him to return to his home in London or the family home in Leicester. 'I think he will stay over there because he would be too frightened to get on a plane again,' he added.

Of the 241 on board who died when the Boeing 787 lost power and crashed seconds after leaving Ahmedabad for Gatwick, 52 were Britons. Another 19 people on the ground were killed.

Mr Ramesh managed to crawl from his seat, 11A, and escape the wreckage with cuts to his face and chest injuries. His brother Ajay, 35, was killed.
