England international yet to start in league this season
Amorim: ‘Sometimes I expect more from Kobbie Mainoo’
Ruben Amorim said Kobbie Mainoo was uncomfortable having to fight to start for Manchester United but suggested the 20-year-old could become the world’s best midfielder.
Mainoo has made one substitute appearance in United’s opening three Premier League matches, coming on for the injured Mason Mount at half-time of the 3-2 win over Burnley before the international break. Under Erik ten Hag, Amorim’s predecessor, Mainoo was a regular in the XI. The Portuguese was asked how the England international had reacted to being demoted.
“He’s not used to fighting for his place, maybe,” Amorim said. “He’s uncomfortable, but he’s a very good kid. He wants to learn. Sometimes it’s hard to push different things from the players.”
