The intensity of the Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees rivalry will be on a playoff-caliber level this weekend.
Both teams are battling for the American League's top two wild-card spots while breathing down the neck of the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays.
The Yankees won Friday's opener 4-1. Aaron Judge continued his march up the Bronx Bombers' all-time home run list while New York pitchers kept Boston at bay, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning.
Getting the start Saturday for the Yankees will be left-hander Max Fried, who has been lights out during his past four starts. Fried (16-5, 3.02 ERA) has only allowed five earned runs in 27 innings (1.67 ERA) during that stretch, which includes six shutout innings against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 22. The Red Sox will counter with Brayan Bello, who also shined in that Aug. 22 matchup in the Bronx by throwing seven shutout innings with five strikeouts. Bello is 11-6 with a 3.12 ERA in 25 starts this season.
