Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Sushila Karki, who was sworn in as the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal. The Himalayan nation was affected by violent anti-corruption protests over the past one week leading to the resignation of Prime Minister K.P Sharma Oli.

Addressing a public gathering at Imphal in Manipur, Mr. Modi said that from the soil of Manipur, he wishes to address his friends in Nepal.

Emphasising that both countries are bound by shared history, faith, and a collective journey forward, the Prime Minister extended heartfelt congratulations, on behalf of 140 crore Indians, to Ms. Karki on assuming office as the Prime Minister of Nepal’s interim government.
