Youth Congress national president Uday Bhanu Chib on Saturday took part in a torch-light march as part of Congress party’s call for a nation-wide ‘Vote Chori,’ campaign against alleged electoral malpractices by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Led by Mr. Chib, Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy and Member of Parliament and PCC chief V. Vaithilingam took out a march from Rajiv Gandhi Square to Raj Nivas.
The police stopped the protesters on entering the busy Nehru Street itself after passing through Kamaraj Salai, Saram junction and Raja Theatre. Slogans were raised against the BJP for alleged vote theft in the elections. They also highlighted the need to protect constitutional principles and democracy.
Others who participated in the protest march included Congress Legislature Party leader M. Vaithianathan, former legislators R. K. R. Anantharaman, M. N. R. Balan, PCC vice-president P. K. Devadoss and Youth Congress Puducherry unit president Anandbabu Natarajan.
