PM Modi says need to build strong bridge of trust between people of Manipur’s Hills, Valley
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said a strong bridge of “trust” must be built between the people of the Hills and the Valley in Manipur. Addressing a public meeting in Imphal’s Kangla Fort during his first visit to the State after ethnic violence broke out between Kukis and Meiteis in May 2023, Mr. Modi said his government was working relentlessly for reconciliation and development in the State. Earlier in the day, while addressing a public meeting in Kuki-dominated Churachandpur district, PM Modi said, “It is unfortunate that violence happened here. Today, I want to promise you that the Government of India is with you and I am with you,”.

Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Manipur a “pit stop”, the Congress on Saturday (September 13, 2025) alleged that the trip is “tokenism” and a “grave insult” to the people of the State. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused Modi of organising a grand welcome ceremony for himself and claimed that it “is a cruel prick” to the wounds of those still suffering. “In the words of your own... Where is your Rajdharma?” Mr. Kharge asked on X just before the start of Mr. Modi’s Manipur visit.
