The events which unfolded when Father Ted creator Graham Linehan stepped off the plane at Heathrow last week could have been scripted by George Orwell.

Not one, not two, but five armed police officers to welcome him. Held in a cell. Interrogated like a suspected terrorist.

Why was he being arrested, the baffled Linehan asked his inquisitors, before he was carted off to hospital to check his blood pressure which had spiked to potentially stroke-inducing levels.

The answer? For allegedly inciting violence over gender-critical posts including this gem: 'If a trans-identified male is in a female-only space... punch him in the balls.'

For 1984, read 2025. Sadly, the black comedy at Heathrow is being repeated up and down the country.
