What I really appreciate about Chennai is its polyphonic nature. The city provides space for various forms of expression and identities, and allows people to articulate themselves in different ways. This makes it a true celebration of diversity and creativity, says Anitha Pottamkulam, Director (Culture), Dakshina Chitra.
Chennai doesn’t restrict itself; it makes room for multiple voices to be heard, for a multitude of cultures and ideas to thrive. It creates an environment where celebration can happen in countless forms.
When we celebrate Chennai, we’re celebrating not just the city itself, but also everyone who contributes to it. Whether it’s someone from the medical field, the world of music, theatre, or any other domain, each person adds something unique to the fabric of the city. Their contributions are what that make Chennai truly come alive.
For me, this polyphonic spirit of the city is what makes it so special. It is not a strategic design or a forced cosmopolitanism, but rather something that has grown organically over time. It spans demographics, and welcomes everyone into its fold. This is why I believe we should celebrate Chennai even more. It is a city that thrives on diversity and unity in equal measure.
