Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in MCD House, Ankush Narang, on Friday raised concerns over illegal buildings in the city and asked the civic body about the steps taken to check their construction.
“When the fifth or sixth storey is constructed, only then does the corporation wake up. Inspections should be conducted during the initial construction phase itself. I have suggested that a survey of illegal constructions be conducted and strict action be taken in accordance with the rules. A survey report of dilapidated buildings in authorised colonies should be shared with all councillors,” Mr. Narang said while attending a Karol Bagh zonal ward committee meeting.
Mr. Narang also asked the MCD about the action it has taken against dilapidated buildings. “Last year, a building collapsed in former Mayor Mahesh Khichi’s ward in Karol Bagh. The inquiry and the action report of that incident should be shared,” he said.
Over encroachments, Mr. Narang asked, “Has the corporation identified where the encroachments exist? Have any actions been taken against them?”
Mr. Narang said the roads are littered with waste, and parks are in a pathetic condition.
