Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa hosted two U.S. diplomats at the presidential palace in Damascus on Friday to address ISIS threats and stabilizing Syria and the Middle East.
The Syrian president, U.S. special envoy Thomas Barrack and Adm. Brad Cooper, who is the commander of U.S. Central Command, discussed efforts to counteract ISIS in Syria and eliminate its threat in Syria, U.S. CentCom announced in a news release.
They also discussed reducing the risk of an ISIS attack in the United States, while working to fulfill President Donald Trump's "vision of a prosperous Middle East and a stable Syria at peace with itself and its neighbors," the CentCom news release said.
Cooper and Barrack also "offered praise to Syria" for its government's support for recovering U.S. citizens inside Syria and continuing efforts to U.S. goals in the Middle East, according to CentCom.
Those goals include integrating armed Syrian groups into the Syrian military.
