Funeral arrangements remain pending as of Friday, Sept. 12, for Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who officials say was the victim of a "political assassination" while speaking during a recent event at Utah Valley University.
On the morning of Friday, Sept. 12, authorities in Utah confirmed the identity of the suspect in Kirk's Sept. 10 fatal shooting as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. He is currently in custody.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, authorities announced they recovered a firearm, a high-powered rifle, in the woods, which they believe was used in the shooting. Law enforcement announced that day that they had learned additional details about a possible suspect from a video being analyzed.
Kirk's murder led to many across the country offering condolences to his family, including President Donald Trump, who was also the first to confirm the activist's death.
"He fought for liberty, democracy, justice and the American people," Trump said in a pre-recorded message from the Oval Office posted to Truth Social late Sept. 10. "He's a martyr for truth and freedom and there's never been anyone who was so respected by youth."
