Bantwal Rural police have arrested a 50-year-old man on the charge of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl from his neighbourhood, in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka.

The police said Aboobacker took the girl, daughter of his neighbour, to the courtyard of a vacant house and sexually assaulted her on March 29. The girl told her parents about the incident on September 10. Neighbours, who were upset by the alleged incident, caught Aboobacker and tied him to a pole in the village.

Following a complaint by the parents of the girl, the Bantwal Rural police arrested Aboobacker on September 10. He was booked for offences under Sections 4(2) (penetrative sexual assault) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and under Sections 64(1) (rape) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Another case was registered on September 11 following a compliant by Aboobacker that a group of persons had assaulted him after tying him to pole. This case was registered for offences under Sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351 (1) of BNS.
