Yvette Cooper announced new sanctions on Russia today as she visited Kyiv for the first time as Foreign Secretary.

Ms Cooper has chosen Ukraine for her international diplomatic debut, arriving by rail this morning.

As a hundred extra measures were unveiled to target Moscow's military and energy sectors, the Cabinet minister was greeted with flowers by counterpart Andrii Sybiha.

The trip is a gesture of solidarity amid intense Russian attacks - which saw drones shot down after violating Polish airspace earlier this week.

Ms Cooper said: 'The UK will not stand idly by as (Russian leader Vladimir) Putin continues his barbaric invasion of Ukraine. His complete disregard for sovereignty has been shown this week when he recklessly sent drones into Nato airspace.
