Istat said Friday that 24.169 million people were in employment in Italy in the second quarter of 2025, a rise of 226,000 with respect to the same period last year and stable compared to the first quarter of this year.

The national statistics agency said the employment rate for people aged 15 to 64 was 62.6%.

It said the unemployment rate in the second quarter was stable compared to the first quarter at 6.3%, which was 0.1 of a percentage point lower than in the second quarter of 2024.

It said 1.623 million people were unemployed in the April-June period, a drop of 9,000 in one year.

Istat said the number of working-age people who are not active on the labour market dropped by 150,000 over the year to 12.294 million.
