Maharashtra government is setting up a policy to issue Occupancy Certificates to more than 25,000 buildings that have been constructed as per the control regulations of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), Slum Redevelopment Authority (SRA) and other bodies. The Mumbai suburb Guardian Minister, Ashish Shelar, launched the scheme following a meeting with party leaders, including former MP Gopal Shetty, MLA Manisha Chaudhary, and BMC office bearers among others. The Urban Development Department will implement a new policy from October 2.Under this policy, OC will be given to buildings in a relaxed manner by eliminating technical or administrative errors during construction. “The relief will also be given to buildings whose ‘OC’ has been withheld due to reasons such as differences in permitted area, problems related to setbacks,” as per CMO.“Due to changes in regulations and policy changes, buildings that are stuck will also get relief. Also, even if citizens are in trouble due to non-provision of plots/flats to the administration by the developer, they will still have a way to get ‘OC’. This process will be implemented online in a transparent manner,” said Mr. Shelar.According to CMO, the housing societies should take the initiative to get occupancy certificate. In the new policy, societies can get part-OC if they propose together or individually. If any building applies for OC or part-OC in the first six months, they will not be charged any penalty. However, if there is additional used FSI, the premium required for it will have to be paid.
